    Tube K member PITA

    SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
    Nearly finished fitting a tube K member and arms to the LX along with a Strange coilover setup, Team Z C/C plates and evac kit for better ring seal. ( I was only running 1 breather)
    Thank god I hired a secure powered garage for £100 for the week opposite my buddy who runs a mustang resto shop on his own. Without him Id be stuffed as also had access to his hoist/tools/skills etc;
    Thought Id covered most angles on the fitment but failed to take into account 3 things.
    1/ My 351w is wider and my Mac longtubes clashed with the passenger side mont plate, hence cutting/welding...Im a bolt on only guy with no skills.
    2/ My stock crossmember seems to have been modded along with some drop mounts for a no stock fitment
    3/ 2nd hand K member which also had on mount modded so much fun getting it to all mate up.

    Lots of niggly jobs have eaten up the time..threads on ball joints, new bolts for K...this is England, my 'custom' harness running on the inner wing where I now have a coilover spring, 4 cylinder spindles which needed maching down to mount the Strange struts (V8 spindles are thinner in the strut pad area)
    Evac all welded on and fitted today, just got to route brake lines along K member ( they were fitted along stock K)...Oh and a houdini job to fit upside down an re-attach clutch cable to quadrant as it became detached PITA with non moveable Kirkey seats and door bars.
    Just waiting on my Strange shocks for the rear, castor/camber setup and then back to the drawing board on my 60ft setup.
    To be honest be glad to drive it home and park it up..had enuff of it for a while.
    Things you do to gain a 1/10 or 2....I hope

    Congrats on getting through it. Surely you owe your buddy some pints! I didn't have an experience similar to yours myself - I saw what was coming on my last major work on the car and hired it done by the great folks at ProTree. A one week job turned into five weeks and all sorts of new names for my car emerged during that time. The most polite one was "F'ing Rubic's Cube". That's kind of why I decided to stop where I have. If/when my motor starts burning oil, I will get a short block built or try to do it myself, but until then, no major changes, just repairs.

    You deserve a lot of credit for sticking with it and getting it done. I hope it gives you the gains you wanted. Keep us updated and let us know how it works out on the track.
