    Helping Blown Engines Breath Better

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
What is everyone doing to help their engines breath better with a power adder in play?!?!?

So confusing... Oil separator? Oil catch can? PCV oil catch can? Blow-by gases catch can? Oil vapor catch can? Waste gases catch can? Just to name the few.

It's safe to say that........Oil residue that tends to accumulate inside the Intake Manifold from excess oil vapors that comes from the Engine crankcase through the crankcase ventilation hose.......should be addressed?!?!?

On my 92 Vert I have a Racing Catch Can, but it needs to be drained frequently as setup. I plan to re-do this installation, by having BUNGS tapped/machined into both Valve covers and then into Catch Can. I think this will reduce the busyness of draining so frequently, and more importantly allow my Blown, 9:1 Compression motor to breathe appropiatley.

Curious what everyone is doing and or considering. Try to post up pics of your setup if possible.....

I run breathers on each valve cover. I bought Trick Flow Valve Covers...cut holes in each one and welded (or had a welder I know weld) baffled tubes in each and then I have screw on hooded Moroso Breathers. I still shove rags in the breathers (between the breather and chrome hood on the bottom side) because when I beat the hell out of it(which is basically every time I drive it-unless my lovely wife is in it)..there can be some oil seepage on the backside of the breathers.

I also have my PCV hooked up and run that through a Traditional Oil Sep-that you can see in the top left corner. I probably drain mine 2-3 times per season, but each time there is probably only an ounce in there. Technically I could probably only do it once per year because mine holds about 4 ounces.

I tried a bunch of different things in 2006 and this was the best for my setup.

I like my setup because the PCV is doing the job it was designed to do, but when it cant keep up or when under boost the engine is breathing through the two valve cover breathers. Before I designed my current setup I had oil seeps from everywhere on the motor...now nothing basically. Of course the more boost you run the more crankcase pressure.

Mark I have the hose and all the fittings. I can build the kit for around $25 as opposed to paying $70 for it. Auto Zone was sold out of the line filters when I went down there. My next stop is home depot.

Gotta get a separator on my Terminator one of these days.

There's a set of instructions for building your own floating around too.... I think on SVTPerformance.
I'll poke around a see if I can find it and post it here. If I remember, it only costs about $20 for all the parts -- although it's probably not as pretty as the UPR ones...

    Here's the make-your-own version:
Parts from Autozone; Campbell Hausfeld #MP5138...$11.99
    #MP3314 3/8" hose repair kit...............................$ 3.99
    #MP3207 3/8" hose end......................................$ 1.99
    3' of 3/8" fuel line hose 1.18 a foot.......................$ 3.54
You'll need 3 black tie straps and some teflon tape which I already had.
Put tape on threads of two 3/8" ends and screw into filter. Check air flow arrow and mount as pictured with two tie straps. I put a piece of doublesided tape between unit and car body for a buffer. Undo hose from driver's side vent, take off large rubber adaptor, slide on new hose with clamp from repair kit, tighten and snap back into valve cover. Run other end to filter and slip it on, no clamp needed, inlet side. Attach the new hose to outlet side of filter and run to hose coming from supercharger back. Splice both hoses together using the brass fitting from the repair kit. Use both remaining clamps on this connection. Be sure to run the middle joint up into the factory hose side and clamp..will fit perfectly. I used the 3rd tie strap to anchor the line along the firewall nice and straight. Thats it! Took 30min to do! Just trying to help.
Note: It was recommended later in the thread to remove the filter from the can to improve efficiency

Some people use one found on Ebay for about $25 and say it works well -- looks like a rip off of the Greddy square design.
    Looks like this:
