    Real Estate – 1969 Shelby GT-500 428 Cobra Jet w/ 8,531 orig. miles

We are offering this 1969 Shelby Mustang GT-500 (Shelby Serial Number 1946) from the estate of Larry A. Brown, the original and only owner of this unrestored Shelby Mustang survivor with 8,531 original miles. It is finished in Black Jade with a black interior and features a 428 Cobra Jet engine with a 4-speed transmission.

The Shelby American World Registry documents this car with Eger Motors, Inc., McKeesport, PA as the original Shelby selling dealer on May 9, 1969 with an MSRP of $5,245.79. Miller-McVeigh Ford, State College, PA performed the warranty work and is also believed to have acquired the car for Mr. Brown. The last warranty work performed by Miller–McVeigh (adjust door glass) in September 1969 documented the mileage at just 1,665 miles.
“As discovered” photos illustrate the time capsule with 40 years of dust and what appears to be the production line tires, belts, hoses, factory steering wheel cover and even the 1968 date coded spark plug wires. The PA state inspection sticker on the windshield expired in January 1973. From our initial inspection, the car appears to be extraordinarily original and complete less the smog system, heat shield, s-tube, snorkel and original sifter assembly. Mr. Brown seemed to keep most items like these, so we are hopeful that those items will be available once we inventory the estate garages that are packed full of other interesting cars and parts for this auction.

Overall, the condition of the car looks excellent. Upon initial inspection, the paint appears original and exceptional with virtually no damage, including the GT-500 decals. Chrome and bright work look very good overall. Mr. Brown’s mechanic indicated that car was operational as recently as 3 years ago and worked fine. We will post additional pictures describing the condition as they become available.

It was widely known locally that this car was not driven in the rain or even washed out of concern that the water would introduce rust. If this car was hose washed since new, it probably occurred at the detail bay of the selling dealer before delivery. Mr. Brown was apparently very particular about preserving his car – note the mud flaps to protect the rear quarter panels, fine wire mesh to protect the radiator from bugs and debris, and Ford dealer accessory door edge guards.
