Oil Seperator - Factory Standard (NOT)

    Explore Kenny Brown Performance today!!
I often wonder about "Oil Separators," and more so wonder why they aren't (haven't been) provided as stock equipment from the factory in Mustangs, especially present day Mustangs.

Check out this video demonstrating JLT's oil separator applied on a brand new 2013 Mustang GT (installed with just 115 miles on the speedo). The catch can was visually inspected at 644 miles....so basically 530 miles later.

JLT OIL SEPARATOR TEST 2013 MUSTANG GT

This same product has been a popular add-on to the 2011, & 2012 models as well. On prior years, especially boosted applications
(2003/2004 Cobras as an example), "Oil Separators/ Catch Cans" have really be adopted, an seen as beneficial. So the thought posed also applies to those stock boosted factory vehicles as well. Why no oil separator / catch cans directly from the factory?

my guess is dollars and cents.......the additional cost probably out weighs the benefits.
A stock car with zero mods would last 200k if driven correctly. Why should Ford spend the $$ and resources to add a product in that's not needed.

With that said, I run the exact set up in the video on my car and love it. I personally believe they should come on every car as well.

    JLT Responds....

    Robert, good question.

There's a few reasons, 1) cost, it's yet another part to add to the cost of the vehicle, 2) Maintenance, it's another thing the customer needs to service, empty and clean. 3) They don't care if the fuel gets diluted from oil because the stock tune is very limited in timing. As enthusiasts we want to do what ever we can to keep the inside of our engine clean. If you ever take apart a 50K+ mileage engine you will see why, gummed up runners, valves and more. It's preventative maintenance.

I think it was the S197 forum that the JLT rep., ( Jay ), had to admit that their product didn't stop all the oil.......................but they were working on a fix..
