    Explore Kenny Brown Performance today!!
Id rather spend the money on a nice sport fish boat, or put an extension on my home. LOL, not to buy that but if it was sitting in my driveway there would not be any complaints..

Sue Callaway - Fortune Contributer / TEST DRIVES Shelby 100

Home of the SmokinStangs - Northeast Mustang Rally!

The 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 ( http://shelbyautos.com/shelby1000.asp ) was created to commemorate the fiftieth birthday of the the very first Shelby Mustang.

This 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 stays true to the core when it comes to street legal race car performance. It all starts as the current GT500 with the 650 hp 5.4 liter V8 but that's where the similarities end and the Shelby Mustang 1000 comes to life.

This Mustang will be available as the street legal 950 hp Mustang Shelby 1000 as well as the race track Shelby S/C which at over 1100hp is rated at a mind blowing hold on to your pants model.

Due to the fact that the Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 is a truly one of a kind fiftieth birthday edition, there will only be a limited amount of Shelby 1000s that will be built and if you are lucky enough to own one, it will cost you more or less $200,000.

The Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 5.4-liter V-8 is built on a Ford's aluminum block engine, line-bored and fitted with 4-valve heads ported for 35 percent better flow. Even though the engine valves are stock, team Shelby decided to use new rods, crank shaft and pistons which were custom fitted to the 5.4-liter V-8. The Shelby team is also using higher tension valve springs with titanium retainers and a proprietary cam grind to bring out additional power from the engine. The cooling and exhaust system also got upgraded to handle all the power that the Mustang Shelby 1000 can deliver.

The people at Shelby decided to use a liquid-cooled belt-driven Kenne Bell 3.6-liter blower which provides 19 psi of max boost resulting in a compression ratio of 8.7:1 versus 8.4:1. The rpm limit for this ford mustang was raised from 6150 rpm to 6450.

If you really want to impress your neighbors and push the envelope on a nice spring weekend morning, floor it because you'll instantly feel the power of the intercooled supercharger which pushes the extreme power in this special edition Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 engine throughout the rev range, with 850 bhp available at just 4900 rpm. Can you say "Is there a problem officer?"

This car is a 200-mph, 1000-bhp beast that was created by the wonderful folks at Shelby American as only good olll American sweat and labor of love can create.

    Thank you Shelby American.

Sue Zesiger Callaway has spent the last 20 years writing about cars, racing and the automotive industry for numerous publications including Esquire, Men's Journal, Town&Country, and FORTUNE.

From 1994 through 2000, Callaway was also a senior editor at FORTUNE and oversaw cover stories, special issues and much of the magazine's car coverage as well as authoring a regular automotive column. In addition to articles on the most exotic sheet metal on the planet, Callaway frequently appeared on CNN as an industry expert and on the network's "Newsstand" show; some of her segments included driving a Formula 1 car, hosting a CEO-motorcycle drive-off, and assessing the high-end RV market from behind the (big) wheel.

Her sharp analysis of the automotive world-not to mention considerable skills on the racetrack-won the attention of executives at Ford Motor Company. She joined Ford in 2000, where she served first as Director of Marketing for Ford's luxury brands (Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo and Lincoln) and most recently as General Manager of Jaguar Cars North America.
