    Recovering my front seats...2000GT

Shortly, I'm thinking of recovering the front leather seat upholstery with a high quality vinyl because we all know what happens to our seats, especially convertibles after 12 years in the sun. The back seat is still like new and will keep that one as it is. My problem is trying to find and OEM cut pattern so I could make the covers without taking the seats out, disassembling the leather pieces and using those as patterns. I don't want to hold up the car while sewing the new covers. I've found the perfect matching vinyl and my wife has an HD sewing machine to put these together, it's kinda nice being married to a seamstress. I may be asking for too much here but the best prices I can find are between $550 and $700...a bit much for an old ride like mine. Please advise!! THANX!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Over the last couple of years I replaced my white leather seats on my 94, but I took a different direction. I was able to obtain a very nice pair of used black fabric Recaro seats in excellent condition at a great price. Even though the rear seat was still in great condition, I did a black carpet rear seat delete, mostly to get rid of the white back there (and honestly I think the rear seats had been used maybe ten times in 16 years - LOL!). I love the Recaros and certainly don't miss caring for the leather. I've never looked back! The whole thing ended up costing me about $900 and worth every penny!

Good luck with you project - I hope you enjoy the result.

For that sort of money, I wouldn't put a dime into GT seats. There just isnt much support. For the same price range you could get a set of Bullitt or Mach1 seats that offer MUCH more lateral support and bolstering. You could probably sell off your originals and recoop some cost as well. 03/04 Cobra seats are another options.

The base GT seats just don't offer the support needed. To toss $1000 into them just doesnt seem cost-effective.

Of course, i realize you are probable trying to stay low cost? You could always source used seats. I got a set of 2004 GT leather-trim fronts for $300 that were practically never sat in.

That is what I've been throwing around also. Mostly everything I've looked at so far are not much better than mine but winter is still young and I'll keep looking. THANX!
