    Foxbody Engine Bay Clean-up

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
Engine bay clean-up has become more & more popular over the years. The quest for engine bay bliss can often become very contagious...resulting in a full on assault, where-as owners choose to go deeper and deeper with the process. When this occurs, a term known as "Smoothing," seems to surface quickly . When you go here, it means your committed....and your taking it to the max.

"Smoothing" is actually better referred to as "Welding & Smoothing." Basically it boils down to hours and hours of welding holes, body filling, skim coating, and sanding. All that prep and your finally off to the painting process from there..

    Panel - Option

As quick as demand has grown for spotless and SMOOTHED engine bays, so has the birth of some new helpful items.
As the most notable, and most labor saving...and thankfully for many, panels are now readily available.

    Panels:

Scott Rod Fabrications exists for the purpose of filling the gap between professional quality parts and affordability.

All of our kits are made from .040" aluminum and are bead rolled and stepped for added integrity. They are lightweight and designed to finish off your project car or race vehicle without breaking the bank.

We are a supplier of custom components for your race or show vehicle, including:

Fox-body Mustang aluminum inner fender panels, firewall cover panels,
heater core cover panels, door panels, rear seat delete kits, package tray covers, trunk floor covers, spare tire well covers, trunk side filler panels and our latest addition - steel weld-in inner skirt covers.

SN95 Mustang inner fender panels, rear seat delete kits, door panels,
package tray covers, trunk floor covers, and spare tire well covers.

Pretty powerful tool when you can go from a fender apron like this:

    And apply one like this:

Mustang Monthly did a nice piece on the process of "How to replace an inner fender apron."

In my opinion a smooth engine bay is just SEXY….!!!

It is something that has to be done by someone who can weld and do some bodywork though.

We are having the engine bay smoothed in our 84 Coupe and I have plans to pull the motor in my 90 in the next year or so and have that done as well.

this is how we plan on smoothing out the engine bay. I ordered the weld in panels and frame rail covers last week from Scott rod fab. they seemed really easy to deal with. i should have them by wednesday, at least thats what i'm hopeing for. Scott said about two days from Ohio. I learned about these from Justin (THANKS BUDDY) for the price it will save alot of work for sure. they have a whole lot more for mustangs. If the items i ordered are as good as they looks i will be ordering alot more pieces in the future.

Smoothing the engine bay in opion isn't just about welding and body work. you have to do something with that god aweful harness as well to complete the look. i think this will be the most challeging part of our build.
