Next step for my '95 Cobra

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
    I'm in a dilemna lol..........
For the last week or so I've been researching the possibility of adding a Vortech V3 supercharger to my Cobra. With the engine setup that I currently have, I would be looking at 400-430rwhp, maybe a little more after dyno tuning it. Price would be $3250 or so installed plus another $500+ for dyno tuning.
Yesterday I found a set of ported Twisted Wedge heads that I thought would do very nicely on my Cobra. The N/A combination with a custom cam would put me over 300+rwhp. This would lead to a great foundation for a supercharger later down the road. The heads would cost $1250 + shipping, custom cam would be $300 plus shipping.

Which one do I go with?

You'll make alot more power with the supercharger vs doing the heads, cam and intake. A typical supercharger with a 10lb pulley will net you an additional 100+rwhp than 40-50rwhp for the heads, cam and intake.

I'm fully aware of that but the point I'm looking at with the heads is that the longblock will output more power with the h/c/i and then a supercharger than it would now with just a supercharger.

    I would go with a supercharger ...

if money is no object, obv the blower is the better upgrade.

however if you are like me who hates to do things twice...might make sense to do the work on the upper part of the motor now then go back and add the super charger later.

I think you just need to take a closer look at what your goals are with the car.

The pricing is definitely right for the installed V3 kit. The TW heads that I want to get have enough flow to handle a mild 351 buildup. My short term goal is to have a good looking daily driver car that can be taken to the shows or the dragstrip on weekends. Eventually I want to set up a 427 build that will end up supercharged. Until that engine build is attainable financially, I need something that can keep up with the new 5.0 Mustangs. Supercharged is definitely the route to go to get there quickly.......the heads and cam package would set me up with parts that I can use towards the 351-based build.
I'm pretty much done with the 275rwhp/305rwtq that my current setup is at right now. Looking for more.......

    My two cents.

The Heads and Cam are not going to Wow you or even let you keep up with one of the new 5.0s. Plus if you really want to build a 427 down the road, then dont waste your money on those heads and cam, because you are going to want something more for a 427.

I would step up to the Vortech, buy a Power Pipe from UPR or Anderson, buy some 42lb injectors and have the thing tuned right. You will have a noticeable difference in power and at least be able to keep those newer 5.0s close...!!!!!!!

Good thing about getting the blower now, is that you can always build another larger motor down the road and still use the same blower....(something I will be doing shortly!!!)
