Sorry up front for the Corvette, I thought you guys might like to see the work we did on it. ;)
The DMC team has been working hard to get Don Burton's car repaired. With the damage that was caused in his accident the decision was made to remove much of the front framerails and fender aprons.
Here’s what it looked like before they went to work.
The beginning of the removal process. Lots of measuring, marking, measuring again, then cutting.
Dennis boxed off the framerails and got a front hoop installed to provide a base for all of the other tubing.
Support tubes welded in just ahead of the strut towers. This part of the process took Dennis quite some time to complete. Lots and lots of welding.
Closeup of the framerail sections welded in.
Passenger-side strut tower area – all of the seams have been welded up and the forward bars are now part of the car’s structure.
That area was finished off with two 3.5" sections of tubing to create supercharger inlets into the passenger compartment to the intercooler. Check out the close-up in the bottom right corner!
The car as it sits right now. Don will be picking it up next Sunday!
As many of you have realized, we also repaired Paul Major's car after his accident at the Ultimate Outlaws race back in September. It took approximately three weeks from when we received this to repair for Paul to be out on the track.
Gerry, Dennis, and the rest of the team got to cutting out the bent and broken pieces once we received the car back from the frame shop.
Level-checking on the passenger side of the car. As you can see, the tubing needs to be installed at a length longer that what it will be all finished up.
The front framework is starting to take shape, and we re-installed Paul's engine to be able to mock up all of the parts and pieces that needed to be reinstalled.
Gerry working on finishing off the passenger-side of the front framework so that we could mount the nose. In the bottom right corner is what the framework looks like on the driver's side.
New upper tube on the driver's side. You can see where the guys finished off the factory front framerail with new plate also.
Front of the driver's side framework. The hole was closed off with a piece of steel after this photo was taken.
New engine installed; Gerry and Paul working on putting the finishing touches on the car.
It was a lot of hard work, but the team was able to get Paul repaired in time to make the Shakedown at E'town, just three short weeks after dropping the car off.
You may also remember Bill Robaey's car from one of our previous updates - Bill brought us his car for an update, but we ended up cutting everything out to start fresh on a badass brand-new 25.5 chassis for Bill. The car will be going onto the chassis table in the next few days, as of right now Scotty is finishing up removal of material that will be unnecessary for Bill's x275 machine.
That's all for now, look for another update from DMC next week!
