    03 Cobra Wheels

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
Guys my be a silly question but here goes.

    03 Cobras came with 17"x9"

Now I have just measured my wheels width and they are just over 10" wide, front and rear the same

The tyres are 245 45 17, so is the 9" width a inside measurement or are my wheels wider then standard

no way a 245 is on a 10 inch wheel must be a certain way to measure

My supposedly 17x9 95 Cobra R wheels measure ten if you measure that way, too. Must be an inside measurement or something.

stock sized tires on our cars are 275/40/17, stock size wheel is 17x9. check the wheel and see if you can find any Ford OEM stampings....that will let you know for sure

proper way to measure a wheel is from the inside, not from the outside.

    hope that helps

Andyman, your car must be a handfull to pull away from a stop and not spin the tires with only 245s on it. Those are Mustang GT size tires (or is it "tyres"?). Like Ian said, stock is 275 -- and a lot of people put 315/35-17 Nitto drag radials on the back to keep the rears from spinning as much. (Nitto will fit on the stock rim, other brands not so easily)

But yes, the 9 inch measurement is the inside bead.

You are measuring them incorrectly. The outer bead lip is 1/2" and is not counted in the measurement.

You really measure from the inside of the lips with the tire removed. I have a wheel sans tires at home, i can post some pics later, but pretty sure you have a 9" wide wheel

You should also have 275/40/17's on there

is there any tyre rubbing at all??

This is the rearview of my '95 Cobra with Saleen 10.5" wide rear wheels. The tires are Goodyear GSD3 in 295/35ZR-18.
