04 mach 1 head tick any advise

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
Ticking noise coming from drivers side of my 04 mach 1 sounds like a lifter noise. Have done some research about this online sounds like it might not be good. Any advise.

Sounds like the infamous head tick........

it's not a life threatening situation...just some bad valvue guides. This issue is VERY common in the teriminator world, but I am not sure about the Mach 1. Ford did make some updated heads that fixed the problem. Alot of car's had these replaced and updated under warranty

I would recomend joining a forum that has alot of knowledge like Mach1 registry or svtperformance.com.

yesah i was on mach 1 registry last night reading up on it, and i guess they made 3 up grades mine has the build date of 10 -03 where i guess they hadnt perfected the problem. yes Dennis the noise shows up after the car has warmed up at idle sounds like a lifter noise. kind of sucks I just bought the car this summer have only put about 2000 miles on it car just turned 60,000 noise was not there when i purchased. This is my first mustang use to be camaro guy and this is what i get. Dont get me wrong love the car just want it fixed and done correctly. there was someone on mach 1 registry saying the noise is piston slap not a valve problem and that ford replaces the head to cover up the piston slap noise? hope this isnt true. Also no warranty on car now does anyone know if ford will stand behind this? Also had a code of missfire on cylinder 4 for some reason. Anyway dropping off @ portsmouth ford tonight to be diagnosed.

If you have a chance, you should come to the dyno day at Performance Dyno this Saturday. Alot of very experienced guys will be there.

It sounds like you have a couple things happening at once.....you did the right thing by leaving the car to get professionally diagnosed. Please let us know what they come back with

Would like to come to dyno day,But unfortunatly have to work this weekend Ports ford called today said they had it running for over an hr and it never made the noise ( not sure bought this its done it to me every time after warm up@ idle the last 3-4 times ive driven it even was doing it when i dropped it off there). Your right torch red 2 seperate issues they did say it needs a coil pack and plugs also.

They said it wasnt a recall that it was a TSB. But this tells me ford was aware of the problem and dont understand why they dont stand behind it.
