In partnership with our Sponsors we are able to share with you this build project!!
Project: SMOKIN- / SmokinStangs.com track duty car
Candidate Car: 1995 "Opal Frost" DECH Mustang http://www.smokinstangs.com/showthre...5-DECH-Mustang
Engine: 5.0L (Stock Bottom End)
Transmission: AODE
Gears: 3:55
Existing / Prior Mods: Cam, Edelbrock Aluminum Heads, Cobra Upper/Lower Intake, CAI, AC Delete, Tune
Objective:
Build a Turbo based Mustang...something that is consider to be tangible by the masses. Not over the top, but a contender....that is somewhat easy on the wallet. We plan to push the limit of the stock block, just prior to the bleeding edge of safe!! Yes....there is such a place
We will share with you the products used, explain and identify some installation elements, and provide before and after results, to include dyno numbers & results, and lastly...finish up with some track-side video footage.
Platform Details:
We are utilizing the SN95 Mustang Platform, which was a unique to 1994-2004, but many often think of 1994 & 1995 when the term is heard. Ford had decided to segway away from the long running foxbody platform, which ran from 1986-1993, but had opted to continue on with the 5.0L engine, for an additional two years to follow. All said and done, 1995 ended up being the the last year of the 5.0L engine. The melding of the 5.0L engine to be accepted withing the 94-95 Mustang took some figuring out on Ford's behalf, but was ultimately accomplished. Keep in mind, that overall it was a fussy deal to get the job done. All said and done, it was successfully accomplished, and resulted in a nice deliverable finished product.
Why is this important, and what does it have to do with this build, you may ask? Basically what it means is that 1994-1995 was a short window to play with for many aftermarket companies. To sum it up quickly...in the land of mods & sales, volume is a good thing! Dealing with a short production run, referring specifically to the Mustang overall, not the 5.0L engine, modifications options, especially in kit for such as the Turbo System being applied on Project SMOKIN- were considered far and few.
