According to an article published by Autoweek...Shelby American is planning on celebrating their 50th Anniversary next year with the resurrection of the Rent-A-Racer program which offers car enthusiasts the opportunity to rent Shelby Mustangs at select Hertz car rental outlets.

Although the details have yet to be finalized we expect the new Shelby Rent-A-Racer to be based on the 2012 Mustang GT with a few appearance and performance upgrades. Word is the new Mustangs will be available in the traditional black and gold paint scheme with white and gold as an option as well. A body kit and Shelby 19" wheels will most likely round out the appearance upgrades. On the performance side of things its expected that Shelby will again use a Ford Racing performance package including a cold air induction kit and exhaust system to give a small bump in power to the GT's 412hp 5.0L V8 powerplant.

While Shelby has yet to name the new Rent-A-Racer Mustang its extremely likely they will again utilize the GT-H moniker of the past. In 1966 Shelby and Hertz teamed up to create the Rent-A-Racer program with 1,000 GT-H Mustangs available for rent.

Again in 2006 Shelby, Ford and Hertz got together to release an updated version of the GT-H featuring an upgraded 325hp 4.6L V8. Since then Shelby Mustangs haven't been readily available for rent but Hertz has recognized the need for a similar program so just last month they announced their new Adrenalin Collection rental cars which includes the 2011 Mustang GT.
