Problem Solved? Here's to hoping !

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
My Final attempt at finding the ghost I have been chasing for 2 years was completed today..

Spent a very long day with NHMC Pres Rick L. today in his garage, The plan was to try to get a look at the trigger wheel... Started by removing the crank position sensor, no easy task, dam AC is in the way and discovered a hairline crack in the Crank Sensor , this was interesting but not enough of an answer at this point in my mind because I haven't thrown a single crank sensor code. So then it was on to a quick visual on the trigger wheel, removed the Crank Pulley and removed front seal and BINGO, you could see something was up right away. !! Then it was game on !!

The trigger wheel was going to be replaced. no questions about it,..Had to remove the timing cover which is no picnic on a 4.6 , never mind all the additional parts for the KB set up... finally the trigger wheel shows it's ugly self and it is in pretty tough shape, the key-ways original shape is barely recognizable..

Did a quick inspection of the chain, guides, etc, Everything looked pretty dam good , and it was surprisingly clean inside considering the motor is approaching 140K..

Now reassembly is never as fun as tear down, no exception here, but after some perseverance, ingenuity, and some finesse Rick pulled through as always, and got the job done !! We even took a ride to Ford to get a Brand new Crank Bolt, seemed like the last one was marred up a bit and appeared to loosen up a bit since last season so we didn't want to take any chances.

Car seems to be running great, didn't really have too much of a chance to stretch it out on the ride home, lots of traffic but it seemed crisp... but I have thought that in the past after changing coil packs, plugs, cam sensor, swapping injectors , etc etc... I think you get the point.. I have no clue if it feels better or not.. lol... I need to see what she does on the dyno, Not looking for added HP or anything but looking to have a clean pull and not have all the misfire issues that have been plaguing me for 2 years.. Hope to go on the wheel Sat.

Regardless , this is it game over in chasing this any further , fixed or not.,. not going to worry about the 6 or so tenths I lost at the track..Just going to drive it till she pops, if she ever does.... but after seeing the trigger wheel and understanding how it works I think something has to come out of this ..

    Take a look for yourself!

Well I did twist his arm, bit.. LOL... I having been threatening to show up at the house since last fall, and I finally made sure I could make it up there on a day off with a fist full of $$$ and all the parts I needed ... outside of the Crank bolt that is, that was a after thought precautionary measure.! I will find out Monday night if I am all set finally...

I saw flip for the first time in person ! Very Sharp ! I like it a lot, what are the plans for flip. ?

Title says it all !! Finally !! took a 72 mile trip to get there from work to confirm all was good, ! Well worth the trip !!

Relcutor Wheel 100% the issue , actually picked up an additional 30RWHP/36RWTQ without even touching the tune !!

Could of broke 400 easy had the car cooled off a bit more and if we had some time to tweak it.., Wasn't really worried about the # too much, just glad to have things fixed
