How one lucky Mustang enthusiast bought Boss 302 #0001
It would be natural to assume that the first production Boss 302, designated by the number on the strut tower brace in the engine bay, would have already been spoken for by a Ford executive or some celebrity collector. If anything, we’d expect that a dealership would try and sell the car with an outrageous price tag. Those assumptions would be wrong. In fact, Boss 302 #0001 sat in a Texas showroom for sale by a dealer who didn’t even know what they had on their hands. They offered the car for $5,000 over sticker, less than what many dealers are charging for Boss 302s around the country. One lucky man, Shane McGlaun, now owns the car and was kind enough to share the story of how he happened to buy Boss 302 #001.

that's awesome...but at the same time it's sad the car is going to be used as a daily driver

The reason why all the old cars are worth so much is because people actually drove them.
You will never see any current model specialty vehicle actually APPRECIATE in value because there is usually a couple hundred sitting in collections with zero miles.
The reason why the older cars are so rare is because most of them were driven into the ground.
In 30-40 years, all the collectors will be very, very disappointed when their "investments" aren't paying off because every one else put the same car away and sat on it indefinitely.
The ones who suffer most are people like us who enjoy the car shows and cruise nights and miss the opportunity to see some of the limited production cars because they are all in plastic bubbles in the collections of millionaires who probably don't even care about the car, but see it as an investment instead. I think it's disgusting and it brings great joy to me to see guys like Dave G using a COBRA R for what it was intended for- RACING!!!! I can't wait to see him rack up track miles on a new 2012 Boss Leguna Seca!! Dave is the man!!!
You want a great investment....buy something with Carroll Shelby's name on it and when he is no longer among the living, the prices will be out of control for the low mileage vehicles.

I disagree because of exactly what ED had to say. I know......... I shouldn't have said that I actually agree with ED, but he has hit the nail on the head. I know of a bunch of people that have done exactly what you are suggesting. So there are going to be a ton of cars out there and I don't see the price raising that much.
Do what was intended with the car..... Drive it!! I'm glad to hear that this guy will be driving the car as a daily driver. I personally wouldn't use it as a daily driver, but I'd be driving it a ton!!!

Overall, I think Ed and Todd are right. But this article is about 2012 Boss #0001. That car will be worth a ton of money, even if every other production Boss gets wrapped in a bubble and stored away. I think it's a shame that this guy is going to use it as a daily driver. That's not what it's meant for, regardless of its production number. It's a streetable track car. Designed to be tracked, not taken to work every day, to drop the kids of at day care and pick up a quart of mile at the store.
Kudos to the guy for getting an awesome deal. But if he was smart, he'd drive it for enjoyment, even bring it to the track and have a blast -- but put limited miles on it. Then in 30 years... fund his retirement on the damn thing.
Should he drive it and enjoy it? Yes.
Should he drive it into the ground as a grocery-getter? No.

I agree!! Cars are made to be driven!!! Not sit in a museum all their life!! I drive my 87GT every day since early March to and from work and everywhere else!!! I used to drive the 69 more than 8000 miles a year, not so much anymore its a comfort thing!! The 69 is way to hot to drive when its 90+. I will be driving it more this year again!! Drive them all and enjoy them, after all, that is why they are made!!!

I agree with that too Jim, i guess I lost track of the #0001. If I had it , I'd still drive it regularly.
Doesn't this car have a special track key or is that just the Laguda Seca edition?

There is a BIG difference between driving the car or putting miles on it vs. daily driving it. I would agree with Jim on this 10000%
The guy should definitely drive it and put miles on it.....but he shouldn't cart his kids around in it as they are going to destroy the car.
Sorry, but this is car # 001...no matter what, it's going to be worth some decent dough.

That's a great story....and nice to see that the general public has a shot at something unique like this from time to time.
