    Nitto NT-01 vs Nitto NT-05

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
Well I am going back and forth between the NT-01s and the NT-05s.

I was decided on the NT-01s as I love to hit on and off ramps at a high rate of speed and want it to stick. Plus I have plans for running some road courses in the future, BUT I am worried about getting stuck in the rain, since my favorite thing to do is drive it on the street.

I have read some good things about the 05s,

Maybe 05s for the street and a set of 01s for track day?

Mark, The NT-05 is a much better overall handling tire than the NT-01. Also wears better. They just don't perform well when it's cold until they warm up a bit, and even then they spin fairly easy even though the handling is still good. You know you can try mine once the weather warms up a bit, unless you're in a hurry to get them soon. All you need to remember is that I don't have a roll bar in my car! Or you can try 'em on your car if they'll fit.

I would avoid the NT-01 until you have experience tracking the car. I also wouldn't advise going to race rubber until you have become very experienced on sticky street rubber such as the NT-05. The NT-01 isn't complete race rubber like a Hoosier but it is considered to be in the race tire class as any auto cross.

I thought about going to race rubber for this season and everyone talked me out of it. The street tire will be much better to learn on.

PS. Mark if you are interested in a track day or two this year, PM me.

Hey John.....Not that I want to get off topic......but, can you start up another thread when you get a sec in the Auto-X......with the much needed information as to "Registration" requirements for the 2010 season.

I have have a feeling that there will be a lot of takers for Auto-X this year locally. I'll also contact my friend Paul (with the 94 Viper) and of the SHO club on my end.

Will do. Paul is at most events either in his Mercedes or his Viper.

I will post some info when I get to a computer.

Thanks for the info guys...I guess I will go with my original thought the 05s..

I spent too much money this past year so no new tires or track days for me this year. Next year once I change my struts/shocks, add a bump steer kit, strut tower brace and the 05s I will be ready to rock and John can school me a bit....

What are you planning on for shocks/struts? You may want to stick with a brand that will allow coil-overs at a later time in case you decide to get deeper into suspension.

Right now I have KYBs and I was going to go with Bilstien HD Series and the MM site says they will work with coil overs....

I am open to suggestions though...

The Bilsteins are great. I am happy with mine.

If I had to do it over again though, I would do the Sport or Race valved Bilsteins from MM. They allow for a higher spring rate.
