When I got my Cobra it hadMT's on it. You don't want to run them on the road unless you;re sure you'll never get caught in rain. The previous owner said he got badly sideways in the rain at about 20mph. For the few weeks I ran them, I only got caught in the rain once. I turned onto my street just as it started raining and even on the barely damp road it was noticeable. Of course the regular street tires I run now (OEM Eagle F1's) don't have anywhere near the grip in the dry.

MT makes a 17" DR that will fit your GTO. No need for different rims, but you will likely see issues in the weather as people have already mentioned. Best solution, just get new sneakers for your drag rims. The best street tire is going to blow at the track and the best track tire is going to blow on the street. There is no acceptable middle ground IMO.

I drive my car all the time, rain or shine with nitto dr's. It's a great overall tire with good traction on the street (for my car at least). They're a little tricky at the track but i've seen people cut 1.7 60fts with nittos so they do hook ok.

The Nitto is probably the best all around tire. I ran them for a while. I did only see rain one time with them but they felt perfectly fine. If you want a true track tire, just run them on a separate rim.

Like Bruce said, Nitto is releasing the new NT-05R but no word on how they are yet.

I have MTs for the track on different rims and they hook pretty well. I just want traction on the street. Second and third gear are fairly useless in my car with the toyos on it. Kinda takes the fun out of it :( Only problem Im having now is finding the size. I have 18s on it. So i need a 275/35 18.

2005 GTO twin turbo, Red Int, Custom Twin Turbo, Tial 38mm wastegates, HKS blow-off valve, Snow Stage 2 Methanol Injection, Aeromotive A 1000 pump, Aeromotive FPR, Professional Products fuel rails, 60lb mototrons, custom turbo manifolds, Spec 3+ clutch, gmm rip shift, Tune by me on HP tuners

BFG makes a nice 295/35 or 30/18...I ran it on my 18x10 fr500s and they hooked great. again...shitty in the rain though
