Here is my 5.0 story..
In the early 90s I had a 90 Notch that was my daily driver. I quicky added 3.55s, a Flowmaster Cat Back and oh a Paxton Supercharger putting out 8lbs of boost...Now that is not a big deal for today, but in the early 90s things were much different. So I enjoyed my Notch for a while, but then decided to get into Sport Bikes and the Notch was sold. Never really got over my 5.0 Obsession......fast forward
In July of 2006 I decided it was time to sell my GSXR 1000 as I was getting too old to travel at the ridiculous speeds that bike took me-plus I still had a Harley so I could still ride. In August of 2006 while down the Cape on vacation I am sitting at an outside restaurant and I hear the Sweet Sound of a Flowmastered 5.0 rolling by in a custom painted LX...so that was it I decided I had to get another 5.0 ....But another Notch, a GT or an LX???? I knew a couple of things it had to be:
-A 25th Anniversary 1990 Model
-Black
-Supercharged
So I was Ebay searching and found it...a 90 GT 5 speed, with GT-40s, Trick Flow Cam, Powerdyne Supercharger. Here it is the day I towed it home from Ohio...
Here is what the motor looked like after me driving it around for 2 weeks....The Powerdyne Blower let go(piece of crap) and the motor was drinking a quart of oil every 50 miles...so I said tear it down and rip it out. Sold the GT-40s, cam, lifters, rockers etc...removed the stock short block and started new..
September 2006 to March 2007
Cobra Front Bumper and Harwood Cowl Fiberglass hood were purchased, fitted to car and then sent out for paint and reinstalled over the first winter(fitting a fiberglass Fox front bumper in a cold garage is not that easy....a hair dryer is your friend). Debated how to rebuild under the hood and decided on a 308 Twisted Wedge headed long block. Motor was put together and I had the car running in April of 2007...took me several months to work out all the bugs and finally have it tuned.
December of 2007-Fresh Paint
(There was an unfortunate rear ending incident while on an all Mustang Cruise in Oct 2007 that moved up the paint schedule by a year-but all worked out!!)
I stripped it and started sanding it and then realized I should stop and leave it to the experts
