About a month ago I purchased a non running, in need of assembly 93 LX that sat apart for over a year. After weeks of trying to get this car up and running, I ran into some very strange idling problems and weird howling noise in the intake. I finally found a fix and I am not sure why it worked. Let me start by saying I did all the normal things you would do to fix this problem, EEC tested, no relevant codes new IAC, TPS (w/new TB) voltage checked .98 volts already had a new mass air flow sensor, new EGR valve (rusted pintle) coolant sensors ok, and last but not least checked all the grounds and the 10 pin salt and pepper shakers. I also dremmeled out my old IAC with little change and I was getting desperate. I read in a forum that someone had once installed their IAC motor upside down and had no more idle problems.... yeah right. Well I figured I would try anything and had a spare IAC. The mounting holes need to be drilled out in order to clear the vacuum line hook up on the throttle body before you do this or it won't fit. Installed it, started it up and the car idled high, about 1200 RPM. Cranked down the idle screw, reset my TPS voltage and cleared the memory by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes. Reset my idle strategy (2 min at idle, 2 min off, 2 min w/all acc. on.) Started the car up, no more idle problems, no more weird noises! If anyone has seen this before, let me know! I hope maybe this will help someone else who might be having a similar problem!
i hope this ends your sleepless nights......?
