    Tire width ?

SmokinStangs - Mustang Forum! The home of the SmokinStangs Laconia - Mustang Rally
Hi Everyone,My name is Steve and I'm new to all this stuff ... I wanted to know if anyone could answer a question for me, What is the widest width rim and what size tire can I put on the rear of my 2005 mustang GT without altering or cutting ??? also I'm running stock Shelby rims which I beleive are 9" in width and I was wondering where to have them widened...

    Hi Steve,

    Welcome to SmokinStangs.com!!

I'm not exactly sure about on a 2005 (I'm sure others will chime in though), but I can help with the Wheel Widening side of the question. I used "WeldCraft Wheels" to widen a pair of Stock GT500 rims for my 2007 Shelby GT500, of which were 9"........ Weldcraft widened them for me to 11" (on the Inbound side). They did an outstanding job, and I would highly recommend them.

Here is the link to their site: http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/

    Welcome again......

2005/2010 will take an 11" rim so long as you have the right offset and back spacing.

Hey bob! Nice seeing you at ford fest!

Other than the suspension package you did from evolution performance did you have to modify anything else for the 11" width? Do you have ANY issues with the 11"s?

Also, in your opinion did the 11" width make a real difference? I have 9.5" width now and would buy new rims and have those widened vs my original rims. Would end up costing 200 per rim plus widening and rubber. I'm willing to do it but only if there is a real world benefit.

Jason....good seeing you again. PM me and let me know if you want to get together some night mid to late eve, you can bring over the new Vert, and we will do some comparison rides.
My 07 GT500 wheels widened to 11" like you mentioned. It was all inbound, as I didn't want it to be noticeable & legal. Also as you know I utilized Evolution Performance's "Ultimate Lowering Kit" - for that particular point in time, but am not sure if the kit is currently compiled of the same equipment, as of late. With my setup as it stands do not have any rubbing or clearance issues, and have been running this for quite some time now. I will not that with regard to clearance, on the right rear I have around an 1/8" or so of clearance.....and on the left rear around a 1/4"......so as you can tell it's money. When the GT500 is placed on a two post lift in the air........the right rear then rubs. (realized this when playing with the driveshaft).......but this is a non-issue. I know of one guy who did the same to his GT500 a year prior to me......so I discussed with him, and then waited, while checking in with him periodically, inquiring about any change and/or issues.....non were reported. I pulled the trigger after all checked out fine.

As far as if it's a noticeable change, I'm saying yes.....proof positive. The widening, coupled with the DR's (drag radials) was one of the best things I did to the car.....IMO!!
Still on the fence......Ask anyone who races at the track if they would rather run down the track with skinnies vs. fatties.........all will say the fatties!!

    You could have this....
