:wtf:
Our cars maynot come out 'til Fathers day show at this rate. More (lots) coming. I can hear the "sucking sound" of bread and milk flying off the shelves now! :givemebeer:

This just from WBZ Sat 1/22
Clouds will be on the increase Tuesday ahead of our next storm. Our computer models are still trying to get a grip on the track of this storm. A bundle of energy from NW Canada will dive into the plains and dig a trough across the eastern US. This trough will tap into and direct ample moisture out of the Gulf and up the coast and an intensifying major storm. The snowfall signature of a retreating Arctic High signals the potential for heavy snow as there will be a supply of cold air…but as it pulls away to the NE…it may also open the door for this storm to hug the coast and provide rain and wind for the metropolitan cities up the east coast…with heavy snow inland.

The exact timing, placement, amounts, and type are still all up in the air this far out and will continue to be fine tuned the closer to the even we get. The way it looks now, snow will be breaking out early Wednesday morning and quickly becoming heavy. There will likely be a snow/rain line to track with the low hugging the coast of New Jersey and then heading right up through southern New England. Strong winds will be found at the coast with the storm bombing with pressures down to 980 mb.

Where it does remain all snow…there is the potential for 1-2 feet of snow! It looks like this could be one of those epic snow storms for ski country for Northern and Western new England with more of a mix in the south of Snow/sleet/rain/snow.

Again, this will likely be a major storm but it’s heaviest snowfall will likely be found from the Catskills to Berkshires to Green and Whites. But cold air could on stronger, create more snow and ice interior, with rain confined right to the coast. There could be concerns with Ice and Sleet from SNH to Worcester…but this far out…really what is the point? It is likely going to change several times before we finally nail it all down between now and then anyway.

A pattern of extremes and a fascinating week of weather to look forward too! Bundle up and enjoy!

Only couple things come to mind that make snow & cold good.

1 is no bugs.

2 is with big snow banks Police can't hide on sides of roads for speed traps.

I noticed that too. All the usual speed traps I pass are filled with huge snow banks making it impossible to use

Maybe the "New Hampshire" Mustang Club can become the "Florida" Mustang Club from Oct till May -- then we wouldn't have to put the Stangs into hibernation for 4 months (or longer).

Yeah, if we get another big one, I don't think my snow blower will be able to shoot the snow over the banks I already have! Then I'll have to be one of thoses bozos who blows the snow from his driveway into the street!

At least they are moving the storm back in time. Now it's not going to come until mid day Wed so at least I get a chance to go to work and treat, rather than go in and sit there and do nothing!
At least this one is going to be a good old NE storm, sounds like up North is going to get hit hard with this one rather than just down south like the last few.

While it's snowing like this, It's a good time to get your taxes done. If you get all heated up, go outside for a minute.

I'm guessing snow will be all gone by April 12th. Including the Huge snow piles we have around. Anyone else?

With a weak trough in place thru the weekend, a couple of ‘Alberta Clippers’ will dive into the Great Lakes region and try to make their way into Southern New England. Both will be weakening as they approach our backyards. ‘Clipper #1′ will produce a few flurries this afternoon and evening, especially in Western and Central Mass.. ‘Clipper #2′ will try to produce a few snow showers late-day Saturday. The GFSx is showing the potential for a quick coating to an inch with this weak disturbance. Otherwise, this weekend will provide a couple of great days to enjoy your favorite outdoor winter activities.

*Midweek Next Week: Could we possibly be looking at more fresh snow the middle part of next week? The answer is ‘yes’ according to the latest model runs. The EURO shows the track of the (‘Panhandle Hook’) low farther north and west which would produce more of a rain/snow scneario. However, the GFSx shows the low tracking just south of Southern New England which would be a prime location for another snowy set-up. As of the 00z Jan. 28 grid interpolations, the GFSx would provide a general 6-9″ spread with slightly less for the Cape/Islands due to a brief changeover to rain before switching back to snow. Of course, there is a lot of time to tweak and fine tune the track of this storm.

Well Todd, if you look at the time frame of the last storm which started this whole thread, tell me how it ended up? Pretty darn good. I started this thread a number of days before it happened. We've had a storm almost every Wed for the last month. Accuweather.com is also saying similar things about next Wed too. I'm NOT wishing it because I have to move it. Just adding to the thread.
This started as a fun thread but now a semi serious thing as many folks may need to clean off their roofs IF, IF this next one hits.

I know, one of my clinics isn't doing so hot because they keep canceling because of the snow. It's not the one with the AWESOME view of the Pelham hills unfortunately.
I'm heading out to shovel a little off the roof today, and start to knock some of the piles down so the snowblower can throw over the piles.
Well keep your fingers crossed for Wed!! I want a big 2 footer storm!!!

Snow even too much for Willie the groundhog

By Sun-Times Staff
Feb 1, 2011 01:20PM

The snowy weather is so bad even Woodstock Willie isn’t coming out Wednesday — Groundhog Day — to forecast how much longer winter will last, organizers of the Groundhog Days festival in northwest suburban Woodstock announced Tuesday.

A highlight of the annual festival is the furry critter emerging from his tree trunk home in the downtown Woodstock Square, where parts of the 1992 hit movie “Groundhog Day” were filmed.
“Due to the weather conditions and with concern for safety, the Feb. 2 prognostication has been canceled for 2011,” the Groundhog Days Committee said on its website.

I went into work today for one patient. I didn't have that hard of a time, but they had to have someone else come in because there has to be two workers in the clinic at all times. She lives in Hudson and it took an hour to get to Pelham. Now I'm not a finance person, but I'd say that by having to pay two people to come in for seeing one person, that wasn't good cost effectiveness.

49 states with snow, 1180 new snowfall records set in the USA this past week – is February Headed For Record Snowfall?

AP’s Seth Borenstein is running a story titled “49 states dusted with snow; Hawaii’s the holdout (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100213/ap_on_re_us/us_united_states_of_snow)“. As shown in the map below, every state in the Continental US has snow someplace. As pointed out in the article, this is a rare occurrence:
The idea of 50 states with snow is so strange that the federal office that collects weather statistics doesn’t keep track of that number and can’t say whether it has ever happened. The office can’t even say whether 49 out of 50 has ever taken place before.

Chicago Humbled By Powerful Storm. A good overview (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/03/us/03chicago.html?smid=tw-nytimes) from a 1-in-20-year snowstorm rom the New York Times: "Chicago, a city that prides itself on its ability to conquer any snowstorm that comes its way, woke up Wednesday to discover that hundreds of people had been trapped for hours — scared and confused, in part because of the vague advice they heard from emergency workers — along a prominent roadway that runs smack through the heart of the city. Among the scenes described by those who spent most or all of the harrowing night on Lake Shore Drive: Frustrated drivers trying to unclog the roads by pushing stuck and abandoned cars through snow-filled exit ramps; a band of passengers crowded inside one Chicago Transit Authority bus — an express, of course — deciding after five hours to make a run for it (many were forced to turn back); people who ventured out, perhaps from their homes along Lake Shore Drive, to deliver cereal bars, water and Gatorade to those stranded."
